September is Childhood Cancer and Histocytosis Awareness Month. Approximately 13,500 children are diagnosed every year. 34 every day and rising! 2,500 children are killed by pediatric cancer.
Childhood cancer is the #1 cause of death from disease for our children.
No parent wants to hear their child has cancer!!
Awareness leads to action. Action leads to funding. Funding leads to cures.
For every $1.00 raised for cancer research, only .03¢ is donated to pediatric cancer research.
How can we say, "The children are our future," when we aren't giving them the best chance we can??
Hisito disorders are a group of diseases that occur when there is an over-production of white blood cells know as histiocytes that can lead to organ damage and tumor formation. The cause is still unknown. It affects 1:200,000 children and can affect adults.
There are different levels to this disease. Treatment is based on severity and the amount of tumors in the body. It can affect many body systems, such as skin, bone, lymph glands, liver, lung, spleen, brain, pituitary gland and bone marrow. For most cases, chemo is the best option.
Cookies for Kids Cancer is truly an amazing non-profit organization. They grant funds to five of the nation's leading childhood cancer research centers to find less toxic, more effective treatments.
